100 m below (N) is the Gauley R. which can be seen and heard from the plot. About 200 m. East is Koontz Bend tunnel. The top of the slope is about 250 m above (S) of us.;Cool, shady section of Tilia-Betula/Dryopteris intermedia colluvial boulder forest. The rocks here range from the size of basketballs to the size of large TVs. There is a nice view of the Gauley River, which is about 100 m below us. The plot is similar to GARI.106 with fewer and smaller Tsuga ca. and more forbs in the herbaceous layer. There are many downed branches and trees that are alive, but have fallen over due to shifting in the rocks. Large trees are leaning somewhat as well. Mesic colluvial gorge slope.
